In 2013, when I started my entrepreneurship journey, it was enough to just have a website. In fact, my first claim to fame was a viral Mother’s Day post that spread through the Blogger.com eco-system.
In 2015, it was enough to maintain a solid social media presence to get noticed. You could share others’ work and your own and leads would go straight to your website. It was beautiful. It was magical. It was authentic and organic.
In 2025, businesses face a vastly different marketing landscape and I have found that what I need to market and run my coaching business is quite different as well.
In fact, given the current climate of tech bros becoming richer and the rest of us — well, not — i’ve been happily and satisfyingly deleting tech accounts I no longer need, like or use.
Since “showing up” online is no longer sufficient, we have a lot of power and choice in where we put our money and our energy when it comes to technology. Businesses — especially micro-businesses (those with less than 50 employees) need strategic visibility to work around digital marketing barriers and saturation of information clogging people’s minds and feeds.
As I face this moment in time, I am doubling down on what I need and what I know …
Unsocial Marketing and The Power of Slow.
I’ve always had a resistance to fast and furious.
And at some point marketing became a ponzi scheme that meant signing up for a ton of courses and platforms and templates and this or that. You walk away feeling like you have an MBA in Marketing and likely not seeing many results.
Let’s change that.
So what do I use for my unsocial marketing strategy and slow marketing mindset?
NOTION

My clients all know my love (obsession?) with Notion. It’s where everything — and I mean everything — goes to be found again. Hopefully. What is Notion? “Notion is a single space where you can think, write, and plan. Capture thoughts, manage projects, or even run an entire company — and do it exactly the way you want,” according to the Notion site.
I use Notion for exactly that. My annual, monthly, weekly and daily planning, lists upon lists upon lists. I even keep a vault of journaling prompts.
Learning Notion takes a learning curve and going down a rabbit hole so it’s not advised if you already have a working “second brain” system. However, if you’ve not been able to find the right system that works for you, it’s worth the trouble. YouTube is your friend for this.
NOTE: I do not use Notion’s AI. I haven’t even tried it. I’m sure it’s great. I just refuse to pay extra for something I don’t need.
PRICING: Affordable for a solopreneur like me, including a free plan. Teams will pay a higher fee.
OBSIDIAN

I do all my serious writing in Obsidian.
This is where I work on articles and book writing. So far, it’s been free for me. I love that it has a daily note that I can write in and keep tabs.
But, mostly, I love that I can keep all my myriad of writing projects in separate vaults and can organize them well in folders. And, I can tag and connect pieces as well as find them easily.

KIT (Formerly ConvertKit)

I’ve been using this email platform for eight years. I have published nearly 1500 emails in that time and have many marketing assets that are valuable to me stored in the sequences i’ve set up. Email marketing is by far my favorite marketing. It’s not like the old days but my open rates continue to be over 60 percent, which is amazing to me. I’m so grateful!
The great thing you may not know about Kit is that they have a robust internal creator network that has driven a ton of email subscribers to my newsletter. Creators really do recommend and empower each other. It’s a friendly network of peers. My other favorite part of Kit are the landing page templates that easily work into my WordPress website.
PRICING: There is a free version for those with less than 1,000 subscribers and the creator plan is roughly $30/month.
CANVA
Yep. Like the rest of the world, I’m a huge Canva user. Can’t live without it. This week I designed my own new business card to hand out locally. Last week I created a presentation for a speaking event. Next week I plan to map out a new lead magnet to put up on my website. I even print with Canva or I upload my designs to Staples for same-day printing.
